Britain had the primary goal of destroying the Turkish-Ottoman Empire and for this it needed the longer-term support of non-Ottoman Muslims. In 1939, Britain decided that almost no Jews would be allowed to flee Europe to Palestine. A smuggling operation came under fire from the Royal Navy. Even when a state of Israel was emerging, the British heavily backstabbed the Jews.
