In political science we do not have basic calculation formulas as we do in physics or chemistry. There are also (apart from limited series of experiments in behavioral research) no experiments with an experimental setup that could be repeated independently. History, on the other hand, when analyzed like an intelligence officer, offers us a variety of insights gained through trial and error on a large scale. You can’t start with unrealistic ideological ideas and desires and then go through past history, interpreting everything the way you want it to so that it seems to provide confirmation of your preferred ideology. Fantasy depictions always seem trite, cliched and predictable. Reality, on the other hand, is always surprising, complex and often even seems paradoxical; even for an experienced person.
As a normal citizen, you have almost no direct access to the various centers of power and you don’t really know any relevant areas. Therefore, people are influenced by fantasies about history, fantasies about the mechanisms for change today, and fantasies about a desired social system. Political-ideological influencers
- complain about the current conditions because they are so far removed from the dream social system envisioned
- promote their castle-in-the-air fantasy of an ideal social system
- manipulatively interpret the history of the last centuries or millennia so that it seems as if confirmation of the ideology can be found everywhere in history
- recommend various mechanisms and methods with which one can supposedly gradually make the dream social system a reality
When the influencers and/or the audience do not really understand what the conditions are (i.e. the actual power relations, hidden structures and methods), when the dream ideas about a social system are worthless, when the history is not really understood and when the proclaimed Methods and mechanisms of action do not work, then it is clear why citizens cannot win in this way. Someone who is a staunch supporter of the concept of a democratic republic will not want to accept the actual situation, but will look for clearly embellished representations that maintain the illusion that one is at least on the right course. The average citizen is treated with a selectively prepared interpretation of history, which always boils down to the fact that today one is not really allowed to question the powerful circles and structures because the only alternative is to drift into communist or right-wing authoritarian dictatorships.
